About me!
My name is Maura Keulen and I am an llustrator currently based in Sittard, where I am completing my Master´s degree in animation.
From an early age, I was captivated by animated films and television series, particularly the works of Studio Ghibli and Disney. Their ability to transport audiences into imaginative worlds and convey meaningful, emotionally rich stories sparked my passion for visual storytelling and continues to shape my creative direction.
I love using these inspirations for my own work, incorporating nature, real life struggles and stories, and use my femininity in it.

letters of recommendation
From September 2 to December 13, 2024, we had the pleasure of working with Maura Keulen. She contributed to our production Miss Winters and the Wind in the role of an intern. During our collaboration, I came to know her as an enthusiastic and dedicated colleague, particularly in the areas of Digital Paint in Toon Boom Harmony and Visual Effects in Adobe After Effects and Photoshop.
Maura approached the diverse tasks we assigned her with great willingness and a constructive attitude. While some tasks yielded better results than others, her positive and hands-on mindset remained constant throughout. Maura works meticulously and is fully capable of working independently. She takes responsibility for her role in a production and maintains a good work pace. Additionally, she demonstrates a constructive attitude toward feedback and criticism. She is open to suggestions for improvement and is able to adjust her performance effectively when needed. She thinks in a problem-solving manner and is creative in finding solutions. Her excellent communication skills greatly contribute to this.
Although an internship is, of course, a relatively short-term experience, we had a fruitful collaboration with Maura, and I can wholeheartedly recommend her to future employers. I wish her all the best in her career and hope that our professional paths will cross again in the future.
Hans Buying, Comichouse
As the profile coordinator for Illustrative Design and a teacher of Maura Keulen, I can confirm that Maura is a strong student. During her Visual Communication studies, with a specialization in Illustrative Design, Maura demonstrated a positive and critical attitude toward our program. She consistently approached her work proactively and managed to surprise both us and herself every term with new insights and (visual) conclusions.
Artistic research played a central role in her development and in the execution of her projects. She demonstrated a healthy work ethic, often taking on a leadership role within her class or acting as the class representative. Her internship at Studio Souza and Comic House has been a significant asset to her vision of the field, which she developed during her studies.
We have observed how she, with an open mindset and a broad approach to Visual Communication and Illustration, gradually honed her focus on game design, animation, and related disciplines. The quality of her work has visibly improved, and her internship supervisors were very positive about both her work and her professional attitude.
